Overview
In order to connect a domain or URL to the platform, changes must first be made to the DNS records of the domain registrar where the URL was purchased. These changes are just an update to the nameservers.
In this article:
- Log into your registrar account
- Setting up a domain
- Setting up a subdomain
- Notify Your contact of updates
Step by Step Walkthrough
Step 1 - Log into your registrar
For the purposes of this article, GoDaddy will be used for reference; however, the steps should be similar for other common registrars. The main step is to update the DNS records.
Step 2 - Setting up a domain
Purchase or find the domain you would like to point to the platform.
- In GoDaddy, click on "My Account" and then select "Domains" from the "Quick Links" section.
- Next, in the table, select the checkboxes next to the domain(s) you'll be updating
- Select Nameservers from the action menu. - Depending on your screen size, you may need to select the More menu and scroll down to see Nameservers.
- Choose the option "I'll use my own nameservers:" and enter these two nameservers:
- graham.ns.cloudflare.com
- nadia.ns.cloudflare.com
- GoDaddy may ask you to consent to the change, select "Continue"
- You'll see a Success confirmation letting you know the nameservers have been updated. Most DNS updates take effect within an hour, but could take up to 48 hours to update globally.
- Note, on rare occassion, the account may still not go live. In those cases if after 48 hours of provisioning and the platform is still not active, try changing the nameservers to:
- melinda.ns.cloudflare.com
- zahir.ns.cloudflare.com
Step 3 - Setting up a subdomain
Find the domain you would like to add a subdomain to, where the subdomain will point to the platform.
-
- In GoDaddy, click on "My Account" and then select "Domains" from the "Quick Links" section.
- Next, in the table, select the domain you would like to add a subdomain to
- Once you have chosen your URL, go the the DNS tab
- In the DNS tab, add 2 new records:
- Record 1
- Record Type: A
- Name: Your new custom subdomain. Example: "Event"
- Value: 76.223.70.249
- TTL: Default
- Record 2
- Record Type: TXT
- Name: @
- Value: v=spf1 a mx include:sendgrid.net include:conveyservices.com ip4:50.31.32.112 ~all
- TTL: Default
- Record 1
Step 4 - Notify Your contact of updates
Once the settings have been updated, notify your contact that the change has been made and provide the URL you would like to use for the platform. Please wait up to 24 hours for the nameservers to propagate.
